In the West or North America, we associate the head scarf with the old country. In recent years, there has been a push toward discouraging wearing the head scarf, masked as islamophobia, while images of porno-chic fashion are promulgated as social ideals. Have modesty and taste gone out of style?
Scarves can be very beautiful and are designed in infinite different patterns, fabrics, colors etc. Wearing one over your head might make you feel more chaste and may help you regulate your behavior if that is your goal. It will hide your bad hair day, keep your hair dryer instead of carrying an umbrella,and not to mention with the right scarf you can compliment or complete any outfit. By bringing attention away from your hair, you can accentuate those naturally beautiful facial features.
With the development of facial recognition software and CCTV cameras propping up in the post-911 world, one may wonder – do the powers that be just want to make us more identifiable? Or, is this just apart of their goal to secularize the world? Why do we associate headscarves only with muslim women? Do you have to be a muslim to wear one? Is our culture telling us how we ought to dress? Are laws trying to be passed to demand we dress a certain way? Do we not have a choice in how we dress?
Modesty is beautiful and being modest is not in any way oppression.

FYI…a lover of mine has had FANTASIES about me in jeans and a bandana,etc. (hippie look/garb) and this is a man who watches porn but is an artist; albeit, not yet totally awakened. I take this imaginative thought from him, as something profound….i.e…..that even “bad boys” fantasize having a “humble, modest” woman!
